Upon my return from the Soviet Union Army in 1990, I found myself back in my home church, witnessing the dawn of small businesses in our community.

“I Was Once In Your Shoes…”

how did i give my life for God's work?

It was during this pivotal time that God blessed me with a unique business opportunity, providing me with a monthly salary of 1,800 rubles—an amount that held significant value in those days.

I gave up my small business for mission work...

What was initially meant to be a two-week stint turned into a long-term commitment of 8-9 years.

“Yes, good idea, but you are not going alone.”

In 1992, they sent letters and invited missionaries back to the field who had served previously, but everyone got busy.

Only my brother got that invitation, and one day he asked for a blessing from our parents to go on this mission trip. Our parents answered, “Yes, good idea, but you are not going alone.” Because when Jesus sent disciples, he sent 2 to every village or city. Vasiliy asked his friend one more time. Nevertheless, everyone said no.

Then he asked me a favor, “Please go with me. I want a blessing from my parents. You will just go for a couple of weeks, and then you will go back, and I will stay.”

I accepted his invitation and took a vacation from my work for 2 weeks, and we went.

When I started working there, I discovered that God called me to be a missionary for His Kingdom. So after my 2-week trip, I’m returning to Ukraine, but in a couple of weeks, my friend and I returned to serve for 8-9 more years.

Tatarstan was a different language.

It was Muslim people and Russian-speaking. Although it was not my original language, I found Jesus called me to be a minister in that region.

No one sent us – we just went.

Did not have financial support. We love God, love people, and we want to serve them. It was not easy, but God allowed me to open a small business there. People worked for that business, and I was in ministry 24/7. Everything is possible with God. Like the apostle Paul, he made some tents to sell and survived in his ministry.

Had no Russian citizenship.

This made family life difficult. When I got married, my wife did not have insurance because we had no citizenship. My kids would not have priority in schools or programs because they are non-citizens. I can relate to those without citizenship, house, apartment, car, or money – I understand those who are like me.
